Here's the question, What is your opinion on How Social Media affects relationships? Has being on Facebook (or any social media site) improved relationships or destroyed them? Has being an online 'friend' made you a better friend in real life or is it all the same to you? Are you actually friends with most of your online contacts? Would you recognize most of them in person? Are there people that you truly speak with outside of Facebook. Aside from this being an actual homework assignment, I think it’s an interesting topic! Me personally, I am a fan of Facebook. I use it as a way of keeping in contact with various people as well as a source of constant amusement. Facebook has allowed me to have more access to people that have gotten lost in the shuffle of life, so in that respect it has improved relationships. I've also participated in a huge family debate online as well which nearly destroyed a few relationships.
I look at it this way, hurt feelings are way better than assault records any day of the week! I'd like to believe that I am the same friend whether in person or online but I do have to say that I'm a little less shy online than in person. What are your thoughts on people who post their romantic life online? Do you believe that this is a good idea? A bad idea? I'm somewhere in the middle with this. I think it’s cute when couples communicate online to show their love and support for each other. WITHIN REASON. I am not, however, a fan of Facebook porn. This is when couples can't stop broadcasting their feelings for each other every ten minutes.
It’s also come to my attention that possible employers have been known to check to see if a potential employee has a Facebook account for the specific reason of seeing exactly who you are personality-wise before they hire you. This has not been my personal experience but it has had me scratching my head and wondering if it’s likely to have a relationship ruined before it even began? So dear classmates, I know that I’ve given you lots to think about. This topic intrigued me because with an estimated 700 million people who are registered to just Facebook alone, most of us are online in some form or fashion and someone always has an interesting story. Either way, feel free to share a story or two.
